Islanders Officially Move to UBS Arena

By Jared Bickler

After three years of construction and $1.5 billion spent on it, the New York Islanders officially moved into their new arena called the UBS Arena. The New York Islanders went through many years of negotiations to get to this new era of their existence as the Nassau Coliseum ultimately could not financially serve the club moving into the future.

"We are very excited what our new home will bring to our fans and our team. With many new luxury boxes and amenities that serve as an economic generator, the UBS Arena will allow us to compete in a very challenging environment. We loved Nassau, but there was no way to upgrade or renovate that ol' barn to today's standards. While our seat count remains the same in our new home, the income from those seats is sure to grow. That just wasn't a possibility in our old home." said GM and team owner Jeff Nagle.

The Islanders have gone through a multitude of changes over the past few months. From a new management team, and a complete overhaul of their roster, and now a new home, the future of the Islanders looks bright. Hopefully, with new digs, the product on the ice will improve and grow with the wave of new and young talent on the way. The New York Islanders are a legendary FNHL team and now are poised to continue that tradition of excellence.
