Seattle Endorsement Deals

By Adam Harris

The Seattle Kraken agreed to franchise endorsement deals with two players and two companies, enabling an infusion of $22 million into the franchise.

Jonathan Quick signed a team-bound endorsement deal with Reebok, indicating the team expects him to be the starting goalie and see more than 1,800 shots during the regular season. The team has indicated to Quick that it expects him to hit that marker before the 65th game, enabling him to be dealt to a contender.

The team also agreed to an endorsement deal with expansion draftee Andrew Nielson and EA Sports. Nielson is likely the lowest rated player to sign an endorsement deal, but his 92 IT rating indicates he should have at least 205 hits on the season.

"It's an aggressive approach," said President and General Manager Adam Harris. "But the cost benefit is worth it to us. We are looking to build for the future and access to cash is a major part of our strategy."

The cost-benefit of taking on the more expensive endorsements is a gamble for the expansion franchise. The working assumption is with a weak defense, Quick will face an average of 31 shots per game, while Nielson will receive 20 minutes of ice time per game. The challenge for both players should be about health, no abilities.
