Halfway Point Grades for Columbus

By Connor Moriarty

As we approach the halfway point of the season GM Moriarty has given his grades for the performance of a select few players on the Blue Jackets.

Adam Morrison - A+
Not much was expected out of Morrison coming into the year, was going to be around to backup Helenius and spot start to give him a break. Flash forward and he sports a 7-3-0-1 record in 11 starts, a 2.55GAA and a .917 SV% while appearing in 18 games this season. "He has been the sole reason for more than half our wins and if not for the endorsement for Helenius, Morrison would see the bulk of the starts going forward. He stands on his head for most of the game and we have played well in front of him, but to his credit we have only won those games because of him"

Alex Iafallo - B+
One of two big offseason acquisitions, Iafallo leads the team in scoring with 24 points, he has been solid and the driving force behind his line. "Alex has played not only an important role on the ice but also alongside Nico Hischier who has had a good start to his FNHL career. He has led by example and been a solid addition to our core group."

Travis Sanheim - B+
On pace for a career high 43 points and only 5 points back of his current career high of 25, Sanheim has been the top D on the Jackets this year while playing north of 20 minutes per night. "Easily our MVP on defence, he has been at his best but has struggled at times in his own end. But we see a bright future for him and we dont mind him making mistakes because we know he will only get better moving forward with more experience."

Nico Hischier - B
The youngest player to play a full season under GM Moriarty, he has been streaky as expected but has showed the promise expected when taken third overall in 2024. On pace for 47 points, he has slowed recently but will no doubt rebound to push his endorsement.

Sonny Milano - B
After starting the season in the minors, he has bounced back and leads the team with 12 goals in 34 games. He would have a higher grade however his production has drastically slowed in the last 7 games producing only 2 points.

Derrick Pouliot - C
A slow start in what was supposed to be a breakout season, Pouliot has rebounded in the last 10 games but the damage has been done on the defensive side of the game where he boasts a team low -20 through 37 games.

Riku Helenius - F
After inking a 2 year $8 million deal in the offseason, the stat line speaks for the disappointment he has been in 2025.... 5-19-4-1, 3.44GAA and a .888Sv%. Enough said.
