The Canes Opening 12 Games

By Duane Goetz

The Canes First 12 Games Review
Well this season that opened up with plenty of hope, as well as questions as to the direction that the new upper management with take them.
With an unimpressive record of 4-7-1 to open the season, there has been a number of bright spots to go along with the not so great results. Once the numbers are dug into it shows a team that on paper deserves more and seem to be playing and getting results that are under whelming.
A look at the team stats in comparison to the rest of the league:
PP% - 13th overall at 14.2% - Average
PK% - last overall at 68.5% - Brutal!!!
PIM/G – 14th overall at 10.5 – again Average
GF/G - 18th overall at 2.58 – below average
GA/G – 26th overall at 3.33 – far far below average
SF/G – 9th overall at 30.4 – above average
SA/G – 26th overall at 31.0 – only 2 shots off the worst in the league
Offense – the team is having no problem generating shots on net, but are having a very difficult time making them count. Again the team at 31 goals in 12 games is very far below the average and must improve in this area. Stamkos, Barzel, and Huberdeau share the team goal scoring lead with a measly 4 goals each in 12 games.
Defense – must tighten up and get the number of scoring chances by the opposition down in number. Youngster Morgan Rielly has got off to a super slow start with 0 points in the first 10 games, but has counted 3 in his last 2.
Goaltending – Tukka Rask has started every game thus far, while being pulled only once thus far. The team needs more than the .896 Save % he has posted thus far, but his play as improved as of lately as well. The Cane nation hopes for better play and results in the next couple weeks.
Stay tuned.
