Flyers Add Five During Trade Frenzy

Are They Done?

By Julian B

With the Flyers sudden jump to the top of the Metropolitan Division, the clubs GM hit the trade market as an eager buyer. Management was looking to add not only depth pieces but a strong veteran presence to hopefully give the club a sizable boost.

The Additions

1) Cody Hodgson from Boston (Rental): Hodgson scored 11 goals and 11 assists with Boston through 62 games this season. The 34 year old brings some added scoring touch to the Flyers 4th line. With 11 pro seasons under his belt, Hodgson is hopeful he can be the perfect role player for the remainder of 2028.

2) Damien Brunner from the New York Islanders (Rental): Brunner (31) has been a target of the Flyers for a few seasons now but bringing him aboard was always a tough task. In 55 games with the Isles this season he scored 19 goals and 19 assists. Brunner will slot in to the Flyers 3rd line with potential to move into the top six down the stretch. This is Brunner's 9th pro season.

3) Lukas Kaspar from Buffalo (Rental): Kaspar may not be the flashy winger he was in his days with the Sens but he brings a lot of experience and leadership. This is his second appearance with the Flyers as he was also acquired as a rental back in 2023. Kaspar played just five minutes in yesterdays game but found the back of the net in a 5-2 win over Minnesota.

4) T.J. Galiardi from Colorado (Rental): TJ brings a big boost of offence to the Flyers 3rd line. The 36 year old has excelled this season with 25 goals and 33 assists on the Avs 2nd line. Galiardi will swap to center for the remainder of 2028. T.J. brings 11 seasons of experience... we're sensing a theme here.

5) Shea Theodore from Colorado: Finally a younger player to discuss. The 27 year old defender has had a less than ideal season and has found himself on the sidelines as a healthy scratch in Colorado. The Flyers are hopeful a small change on the back-end will bolster the clubs ability to keep the puck out of the net. Theodore will replace Kindl on the third pairing with Damon Severson. Shea is the only non-rental acquired by Philly this deadline. The club is hopeful he can get back on track and fight for a more permanent role after RFA.

Out:

Tony Lagerstrom
Freddie Hamilton
Jakub Kindl
Reid Boucher
Eric Tangradi
Three 2nd round picks: 2028 (SEA, CBJ, NAS)
2029 PHI 3rd round pick
$5,975,000

Are they done?

Sources say no, but reality says...likely? The Flyers have completed 13 trades since the beginning of the last off-season.
