Kings play through rash of injuries

Stars banged up, young guys deliver

By Bobby Berger

During the Los Angeles Kings most recent game, the Kings depth was really tested. The squad has been built by GM Berger, not around a few stars, but rather skill equally dispersed throughout the lineup.

Going in to the game against the Detroit Red Wings, the Kings were going to be without leading scorer Radek Faksa. Gabriel Dumont was called up from the AHL to center the Kings second line while Jared McCann moved up to take Faksa's spot on the first line.

During the game, defenseman Aaron Ness was injured as was right wing Taylor Raddysh. When taken in aggregate, this knocked out 60 percent of Los Angeles' usual top line. However, on this day, L.A. would not be deterred. Blossoming star Trevor Zegras stepped up with three points and Riley Tufte added two goals in helping the Kings win 6-2.

After the game, Zegras said, "this was a big win for us. Playing without Faksy is always tough, but I knew the guys would step up." The Kings believe only Ness will remain out of the Kings next game against their rival, the Anaheim Ducks. Dan Ellis has been recalled to fill in. Regardless, it is nice to see a young team come together when tested.
