Rough Start for the Blues

By Jason Besancenez

The first 8 games of the season were rough for the St. Louis Blues. Started the new season out by getting shut out in 4 of the first 5 games. Scoring one goal on the first 125 shots taken. Not the way any team wants to start a season, especially one that was looking to make a move up the standings from where they have finished the past few seasons. The last two games the Blues have grabbed the first three points of their season, beating Tampa at home and then fighting to a tie with that same Tampa team on the road.

Scoring only eight goals in the first eight games of the season is a very clear sign your offense is struggling. The Blues have given up 22 goals in those games, so the defense hasn’t been playing great either. The lone bright spot to start the season is goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic, he has faced just over 250 shots in those eight games and stopped 91.3% of them. Can he hold that form? If he can, and the Blues can find the back of the net, this season can still be a very productive one in St. Louis.

One move was made to the roster early in the season. Drayson Bowman was claimed off waivers from the Winnipeg Jets. Bowman brings a veteran presence to the forward group of the Blue, which was clearly needed after the start they had. After adding Bowman to the line-up the blues have gone 1-0-1, is that a coincidence, only time will tell.
