Season Seven for GM Borrelli

By Antonio Borrelli

Another season is underway. The GM of the Ottawa Senators, Antonio Borrelli, is now in his seventh season as GM. This offseason did not see huge changes but the team looks deeper than ever. Lucas Lessio has signed a new three year deal and has made the jump to the pros after a big season with Belleville. He will fill in nicely on the third line and already has a goal in his first game while playing 13 minutes. He is joined by Tom Kuhnhackl who has been with the Senators organization for 13 seasons but has only been called up for 23 games over that time. Look for Tom and Lucas to provide depth scoring for the Sens this season. On the backend, Justin Holl has received the call to the pros and Alex Plante was added via free agency on a one year deal. Lastly, Jonas Enroth was signed to a one year deal as a 36 year old to take some heat off of Hellebuyck and to help the youngster continue to grow into one of the league's elite goaltenders. On the farm side of things, the Sens dealt Darcy Kuemper to the Flames for Joel Hofer. This trade allows Kuemper to get some pro playing time with the Flames and adds a 21 year old goalie with future pro potential for the Sens.

With a game one win in the books, the Sens are looking to build on a solid 2027 season and 2028 preseason and have high hopes for a long playoff run. With such a young solid core in Matthews, Strome, Vesey, Klingberg and Hellebuyck who have another season of experience under their belts, who worked hard in the offseason and who are surrounded by some excellent veterans, fans should be excited and almost expecting a long playoff run. Go Sens Go!
