The Canes have made a trade with the Detroit Wings moving pending
ufa Yuri Alexandrov for a promising prospect.
This move brings to an end the speculation that management
were going to resign the veteran after his one year of service on the Cane’s
blueline. The steady Alexandrov had been
a stable anchor to an unstable and young group of defencemen. This
move also seems to indicate that the team will likely not participate in the “rental”
trade market and will hope to get into playoffs with the status quo lineup that
is in place. The team new this was going
to be a year of growth for its young core with the hope of being a playoff contender
on the menu, which has been the case.
The return for Yuri is young offensive, defenseman Mitch
Reinke. A 22 year-old, fleet-footed Dman
who stands at 5’11 and weighs 182lbs.
Since being drafted in the 3
rd
round in 2024 he has shown to
be an offensive dynamo on the point, averaging over 50 pts a year. The team hopes that this development
continues and in a couple years a promotion to the big team will be on the
horizon.
This move will allow either Brannstrom or Lindell to be
moved up from the 3rd pairing to the 2nd and for Plante to make his way up to
the big roster.
