PK Key in Win vs Avs

By Julian B

Thursday afternoon saw the Flyers play host to the Colorado Avalanche. The Avs are in a similar spot to Philly in their conference. Both are fighting to stay in the playoff picture and perhaps with a hot streak could sneak in. The Flyers stayed afloat in he East with a 3-2 win over the Avs. It was a hard fought battle but Philly came out on top despite taking five minor penalties and a major to Severson late in the 3rd. Nicklas Backstrom was the games first star with a goal and an assist in the contest.

The win keeps hope alive for at least a bit longer as the Flyers move within 5 points of the 8th place Pittsburgh Penguins. Achieving higher than that 8th spot seems out of reach as the 7th place Hurricanes sit nine points up on the Flyers.

In other Flyers news, the club has been kicking tires on the trade front and were rumored to be in on a star player from the Blue Jackets but it seems the deal may be off the table at this time. The Flyers have never had an appetite to be a seller under their current GM and that likely remains true until circumstances truly look insurmountable.
