Flyers Earn Home Win vs Ducks

By Julian B

As the season rolls along the Flyers are still treading water in an effort to separate themselves from .500 hockey. Management remains confident but the on ice results have been a tad concerning and frankly even puzzling. Philly took to the ice Wednesday needing two points from Anaheim in order to remain in the eastern conference top eight. To the relief of many they did just that. A commanding 4-1 home win and a promising 36 shot performance from a re-imagined line-up. The first period was a wash but Philly came out hot with 13 shots in the frame. Finally just 2:35 into the 2nd frame the Flyers luck seemed to turn around. Eric Tangradi scored his first of the season opening the flood gates to three more goals (Thompson, Backstrom, Larkin) as Philly would take a 4-0 lead into the 2nd intermission. The Flyers tried to add to the lead with 14 shots in the 3rd but Anaheim had the lone marker from Cam Fowler. 4-1 was the final tally, Richard Bachman would stop 26 of 27 shots. Both clubs were blanked on their single powerplay opportunity.

Next up, Philly hosts the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday. The Habs have won 6 games in a row and moved up to within a point of the conference lead.
