Stars Through 12

By Ethan Smedley

Out of the 82 game season the Stars have so far played 12 of their games. They are currently sitting at an uncomfortable 3-7-2-0. The leading point scorers in order are Keller (10), Rakell (10), KK (6), Tukonen (6), then plenty with 5 or 4 points. The Stars struggled badly through the first 8 games. They were sitting at 1-6-1-0 and young star Jesperi Kotkaniemi only had 2 points. Something had to change and GM Ethan Smedley brought up prospects #1 and #2 in the organization, Timothy Liljegren and Owen Tippett. The Stars are 2-1-1 since then, Tippett has 2 points and Liljegren has 5 points each through 4 games. Jesperi and Benn also has 4 points over this span. The Stars have 7 straight games up ahead including games against Carolina, Detroit, Minnesota, Boston, 2 against Colorado, and a warm welcoming to the rival Coyotes. Those Coyote vs Stars matches will always be something to look forward to, but now the Flames vs Stars match ups will also be added to this list with former Stars GM Payton Knoph now in Calgary.

Over that 7 game stretch Stars fans should expect 25 year old goalie Mason McDonald to be playing in at least 2 games. He has started 2 games so far this year, first against the powerhouse Blackhawks which was not a very good outing allowing 5 goals on 23 shots, then he picked up a win against the Carolina Hurricanes with 29 saves on 32 shots. With the new offense since bringing up the prospects GM Ethan Smedley hopes to see the chemistry increase more over this stretch as well.
