St. Louis Season Preview

By Jason Besancenez

As we are beginning a new FNHL season in St. Louis, there is reason for optimism, but that has been said before. This is a season that the Blues need to take a step forward and challenge for a playoff spot or consider this rebuild that has been going on for a few seasons a bust. No major changes have been made to the roster. Several of the younger players that have been developing on the farm since being drafted have been promoted to the pro roster. More of the younger players that were high picks, have shown tremendous development over the past season or two. It’s now time to see if this group can win some games.

The roster is filled with talented youth, there are only 7 players on the pro roster that are over 25 years of age, and only 1 over the age of 30. The team has been constructed around Goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic and a very young, talented defensive core. The question remains, is there enough firepower on the front end to score enough to wing games? This is a disciplined team that should, for the most part, stay out of the box. Can they capitalize on any power plays they get? Can they limit the opponents scoring opportunities? A lot of development has gone into the back end of this roster, will it be enough to win more games than they lose?

Exciting times in St. Louis, if this young roster can come together, this Blues team may surprise a few people. Most have picked them to finish outside the top 8 in the conference, and in the bottom 3 in the division. It will all come down to can this young blue line and goaltender perform? Only time will tell.
