Ottawa Retools

By Antonio Borrelli

Over the last couple of weeks, the FNHL saw some of the most action it had ever seen leading up to the trade deadline. The Senators front office was right there in the middle of it all. After seeing some progress this season from its young core, Ottawa’s brass felt it made sense to make a few trades to add more depth and youth to the lineup. The biggest trade for the Sens saw them deal newly acquired defenseman Adam Larsson and prospect Marcus Pettersson to the Calgary Flames for Mattias Ekholm, CGY 2026 Rnd 1, SJS 2027 Rnd 1, SJS 2028 Rnd 1, and $2,500,000. “Lars was an integral part of the development of our young core this season. It was a hard decision but we feel this will allow us to add to our young core and prepare us to be a more competitive team for years to come.” In total the Sens completed eight trades leading up to the deadline, which involved the following:

Before the deadline, the Sens had just their own first round pick and two seconds, but now have three firsts, four seconds and a third for the upcoming draft. Sens brass, and fans alike, are really excited for the upcoming offseason and entry draft and cannot wait to see there this team will be at this time next season.

Next up is an update on the team's endorsements. One has been achieved and the other is on pace to be achieved. Update to come.
