Blues 20 Game Check In

By Jason Besancenez

As we have played a quarter of the season, the Blues are about where we thought they would be. Showing improvement over last year, but also just short of a playoff spot. We are sitting 5 points out of the final playoff spot at this point, going 5-5-0 over the last 10. The Blues have been in every game, but looking to win more of the close ones.

While not everything has gone has the organization has hoped as we came into the season, there have been some bright spots. German Rubstov is averaging a point a game, tallying 12 goals and 10 assists in the 22 games so far. Rookie Rasmus Kupari has 16 points. Defenseman Trevor Van Riemsdyk leads the defense with 16 points. The best start so far for an individual player has been goalie Alex Nedeljkovic has 9 wins, including one shutout, 2.76 GAA and a .910 save percentage. Alex has been a stone wall in net and keeping his team in these games.

As we move through the next set of games, the Blues are looking for more scoring to help push them into the win column in those close games. To make a push into the final playoff spot, this team needs to stay healthy, they need to continue to have great goaltending, and they need to put more pucks in the net.

There could be a few moves coming to help make that push. If the Blues start going in the wrong direction, could some of the young players make a move back down to the farm to focus on development? It’s certainly possible. Hopefully the Blue collect 2 points in games more often than not, and that scenario is not on the table 10-15 games from now.
