Canes Consistency Both Good and Bad

By Duane Goetz

Well, after 18 games the 2025 version of this Canes team is
full of both potential and frustration.

While flirting all 18 games with playing .500 hockey, there
have been stretches of solid winning play, followed by just as long stretches
of flakey losing hockey.  Currently, the
team is floundering in a 4 game losing streak and struggling to kick it.  Scoring has dried up even though the defense
has stayed fairly consistent.

What is the most frustrating is that this streak follows a 4
game winning streak in which the team was scoring goals at will.  Another weird thing is that all this was done
with Vilardi and Zadorov both out with injuries.  The team seemed to bear down in their absence
and then once they returned their overall play was less intense and you could
see the results.

The 3rd line has been a revolving door thus far,
with youth and vets being brought out and in.
But, it looks like the young guys, Masherin, Stephens, and Schmaltz are
going to be left on the farm for now in order to develop and to give the line
up some stability.

The team has a rest day today and the coach has given them
the day off in an hope that it will allow each individual to get focused and
come back rejuvenated.
