Blues hit the 50 game mark

By Jason Besancenez

50 games into this season a few things are very clear for the St. Louis Blues. They are not a playoff team this year, and there is talent coming in the way of the younger group of players. As the younger group of players were moved to the pro roster to see how they compete at that level, several of them not only held their own, but they stood out in a positive way. Quinn Hughes played extremely well before suffering a broken elbow. Oskar Lindblom, Ryan Strome, German Rubstov and Trevor Van Riemsdyk all performed well on the big stage, and showed they are the future of this team.

While the club has put together wins recently, it isn’t enough to get them into the playoff hunt this season. Rumor is GM Semyck is moving all young players down to the farm to continue their development there, and showcase some of the vets that currently are on the farm for the two expansion franchises coming this off season. With two players going to be relocating to those new clubs, now is a good time to solidify a draft pick in the top couple, and allow players to audition for the Vegas and Seattle hockey operations teams.

Moving those young players up allowed GM Semyck to get a glimpse of what the future will look like, and also gave him an idea of what pieces are still needed, this coming off season will be a big on in the building of the Blues franchise, and pushing them into a position to compete in the playoffs in seasons to come.
