Devils Retool for the Future

Finances back in the positive

After a season with very few highlights, the New Jersey Devils are in a much better place, both on the ice and financially as the deadline came to a close.

Deadline day saw just one deal, with Sebastian Wannstrom going to the Minnesota Wild in exchange for cash -- enough to get Jersey back into the positives. Combined with a low cap number, the Devils won't be losing money like the majority of teams in the league this year. In addition, John Carlson hit his endorsement and Jonathan Bernier is just 2 wins away from hitting his.

The team has also placed Jakub Voracek and Jacob Markstrom on waivers after failing to move them at the deadline.

On the ice, the Devils acquired a number of young players who will be a big part of next season's plans:

Tyler Johnson - The 24 year old center is staying in the minors this year to work on his game, but is ready for the pros next season. He's a point per game player and figures to be our 3rd line center next season.

Nikiti Scherbak - The 22 year old winger has dominated in the minors, posting 73 points in 63 games. He's already been called up to the Devils, scoring a goal in his first game.

Dylan DeMelo - The 19 year old defenseman already looks at home in New Jersey. He had a goal and an assist in his rookie debut, and logged huge minutes on the second pairing.
