Champs Open w/ A Win

Opening as always against the Nashville Predators, the Montreal Canadiens came ready to open yet another cup defending season. Opening night between these two powerhouse teams always results in a sellout, and tonight was no exception, with the Bell Centre packed to capacity just like it was a few short months ago when they won the championship.

Fans were treated to a very tentative start, with both teams combining for only 15 shots in the first period. The second period felt equally slow but did result in some goals, with Montreal leading 2-1 by the end of the frame with goals from stars Kyle Wellwood and Guillaume Latendresse. Nik Bergsfors would put the game out of reach early in the third.

Calvin Pickard debuted with a solid-yet-quiet feeling 30 save performance, his first game as a bonafide superstar with a mega contract.

Montreal will be right back in action tomorrow against the Phoenix Coyotes, with the exact same lineup expected.
