Where did they end up?

an article NOT about the jets

Skylar joined at the beginning of 2019. After the draft itself.
Let's take a look at all WPG 1st round picks after 2019 to see where they ended up.

2019 1st round pick -
28. Ottawa (from Winnipeg), Nikita Scherbak

2/9/2019 11:14:51 AM
St Louis Blues send Tyler Biggs to the Pittsburgh Penguins for Brett Connolly, Markus
Granlund, Nikita Scherbak

1/28/2019 6:00:28 AM
New Jersey Devils send Mason Raymond, Nikita Scherbak to the Pittsburgh Penguins for
Andre Burakovsky, Jonas Siegenthaler, $4,000,000

10/10/2018 8:25:12 AM
Pittsburgh Penguins send Nikita Scherbak, $500,000 to the New Jersey Devils for Kris
Versteeg (rental)

3/19/2018 6:05:20 AM
Ottawa Senators send Nikita Scherbak to the Pittsburgh Penguins for Danny Kristo, Erik
Cernak, Matthew Nieto, Rasmus Bengtsson

Drafted in the 1st round, 28th overall by Ottawa (from Winnipeg)

2020 started with Nikita, a late 1st round pick, playing for the Ottawa farm squad. Back before the new GM took over that franchise. He rounded out the year with only 56 points. He had steady growth consistently finding the back of the net in the minors. Called up for 8 games, Nikita found the net once and picked up an assist. He was relegated back to the minors to work on his game, which has finally seen an uptick 4+ years later. He still has a ways to go to make a true impact on a pro roster though.

Outcome: Not that big of a deal

2020 1st round pick -
11. Winnipeg, Mikko Rantanen

4/26/2016 4:45:13 AM
Winnipeg Jets send Mikko Rantanen, Patrik Nemeth, WPG 2026 Rnd 2 to the Anaheim
Ducks for Morgan Rielly

Drafted in the 1st round, 11th overall by Winnipeg

In a rare event, Skylar was able to get his 1st round pick for that season back. He then drafted, what was expected to be an offensive dynamo just shy of the top 10. When the ratings fell and Mikko showed too much 'trucculence' for Skylar's desire, he flipped him for a formidable defender in Morgan Riley, who went on to win a cup with Carolina. Mikko had time to develop on Anaheim's farm, which has consistently been filled with top performers. Lucky to have that exposure, Mikko has seen significant growth, of which any GM would be lucky to have in their cupboards.

Outcome: What were ya thinkin'

2021 1st round pick -
6. Florida (from Winnipeg), Matthew Tkachuk

3/7/2018 7:12:46 AM
Florida Panthers send Dan Catenacci, Gabriel Carlsson, Igor Bobkov, Matthew Tkachuk to
the New York Rangers for WPG 2022 Rnd 3, NAS 2023 Rnd 3, NYR 2025 Rnd 1, NYR
2026 Rnd 1, NYR 2026 Rnd 2, NYR 2027 Rnd 2

Drafted in the 1st round, 6th overall by Florida (from Winnipeg)

In the leagues most controversial deal, Winnipeg Jets send WPG 2020 Rnd 1, WPG 2021 Rnd 1, WPG 2022 Rnd 1 to the Florida Panthers for $20,000,000, before Skylar took over the franchise, Florida lucked out. Mat is probably one of the highest draft spots the Jets have been at since Skylar took over, for better or worse. With this pick, he gave up after a bit, and sent Matt over to the Rangers. Since then, his stats have shot up. With 94 points in 82 farm games, Matt may be a household name in the east if the Rangers have anything to say. 78IT, 70SP, 73ST, 70SK, 73SC for a 75OV at age 20 is pretty much where Larkin and Marner were at before their downgrade. The wind is still behind this young prospect, who could go down in history as 'the one who got away'.

Outcome: Sucks, but what can ya do. Happy he isint in the west.

2022 1st round pick -
3. Florida (from Winnipeg), Artemi Panarin

Drafted in the 1st round, 3rd overall by Florida (from Winnipeg)

Well fuck. This hurts to read. Blazing speed, great stride, not selfish, good god thank god all these talents are far away from season play. This kid has potential to be a goddamn force! With a pick that Skylar didn't even own coming into things, Florida surely made out with a sweet sweet profit. Artemi played 74 games in the pros, potting 23g and 27a in HIS ROOKIE SEASON! In 4 games in the minors, he potted 5g and 2a. What's more interesting, is he only logged 8 PIM, the ideal player Skylar would have loved to have on his roster. Alas, make do with what you have. As the grass is always greener. Could be worse, we could be Columbus.

Outcome: Fuck

2023 1st round pick -
15. Dallas (from Winnipeg) - TBD

At lest this isint a top 5 pick, so hopefully it doesn't hurt as bad as these other players.

Outcome: Meh
