Striking Oil After New Management

This season was full of ups and downs and upsets left and right. Overall, the Edmonton Oilers won the FNHL Cup. Before the season had started I don't think that anyone would be surprised that Graham Burns would lead Edmonton to a championship this season. HOWEVER, it was Steve Shafir that led them to the promise land after the two switched teams before this season. This was the first year that we ever had two GMs switch teams and low and behold one of those two GMs won it all. This upcoming offseason will go down in history and one of the most controversial as I am sure we will start hearing the grumblings about this being a Graham Burns team. We will then hear the blurbs about how they couldn't win until after he left. Expect some chaos.

Let's get back to the praise of the Edmonton Oiler franchise. They have become the first time in FNHL history to win the FNHL Cup two times. They have a perfect mix of superstar older players such as Patrick Marleau and Chris Pronger. They also mix in some great young talent such as Alexander Steen and Kyle Wellwood. To be honest though, once Chris Pronger moves on with his retirement, Edmonton will take a huge hit and will scramble to repeat as champions. We will see how good Shafir really is once that happens. For now though the city of Edmonton must celebrate. They have won their second FNHL cup in the last four seasons.
