Phantoms Anything but Dead

High Scoring Phantoms Give Flyers Options

By Julian B

Something is definitely in the water in Philly. With so much focus on the pro club, lets take a quick look at the Flyers AHL affiliate. The Phantoms are on an absolute tear this season leading the AHL with 511 goals in 48 games. Compare that to just 210 goals against. The next highest scoring club is the Hershey Bears with 484. So who has been benefiting most from this lethal offence? 20 year old Rasmus Asplund leads the club with his 22 goals and 54 assists for 76 points. That comes to 1.58 points per game. Three other Phantoms have 70 + points (Quailer, Reider and Thomas), nine have 60 to 69 points. Perhaps most impressively; 20 players are on at least a point per game pace. Mason McDonald and David Rittich have combined for 31 wins and 10 shutouts.

Who Makes The Jump in 2026?

With many aging players on the Flyers, the escalation of their farm system could not have come at a better time. The expansion draft also looms which could land one or two extra spots on the pro club. Rasmus Asplund has made a strong case for promotion but could he be beat out by fellow center Tage Thompson? Mark Letestu likely takes a jump back to the clubs third line next season, unless he is claimed in the expansion draft. Mason McDonald aims to take Dubnyk's place as backup. Dubnyk has been on the trade block for some time while management searches for the perfect fit. Joe Basaraba, Jared Knight and Mark Arcobello should all be viable options for depth roles or will become trade bait. Lots of time between now and then, and lots more goals for the Phantoms to put on the board.
