Flurry of Trades out of St. Louis

By Jason Besancenez

St. Louis makes a flurry of trades in the past week in an effort to strengthen the team as it looks to move from rebuilding to contending.

The first trade of the week was sending Kevin Shattenkirk and a 3rd round pick to New Jersey in exchange for Andreas Athanasiou. Adding the young forward and placing him on the farm club will help both the team and Andreas develop into a future contributor to the big club.

The next move was sending Carter Ashton and a second-round in 2028 pick to Florida for Ryan Strome. While Strome has been around a bit, he is still young enough to help both now and, in the seasons to come when the team is looking to compete for a championship. We are excited to see what a change of scenery will do for Strome.

Kyle Rau was then acquired from Calgary for a second-round pick in 2026. Kyle is starting his tenure with the organization in Peoria, but we anticipate him moving up to the Blue in the very near future.

St. Louis and Vancouver then connected on 2 different deals, the first sending Janne Kukkanen to the Canucks for Patrick McNally ad the second was sending Darrewl Powe over for a 2026 third-round pick. McNally, much like Strome, fits the role of someone that is going to help the team both now and in the future. Helping to shore up the defense that definitely has a few holes.

Exciting things are starting to happen in St. Louis. It will be interesting to see how this team fares in the second half of the season.
