Jets finding success

By Skylar Barth

It's a very nice sight to see. The Jets sit in a comfortable 5th seed in the West. 36 points would be good enough to tie for 2nd in the East. Putting the Jets into conversations with the likes of Minnesota, Edmonton, Arizona, Philadelphia, Chicago, Tampa, the Rangers, and last seasons Cup Finalists Sabres. It is still early in the season, on the lesser half of 50%. The Jets like what they see. The goaltending has been solid. The firepower has been unprecedented. The fans in Winnipeg are not used to seeing such product on the ice. The arena has never been fuller. The financials are projecting in the positive (before league distributed funds). The franchise is in a great spot. There are some questions on the young talent, namely, Max Domi, but he is starting to pick things up. The second half of the season is still to come and he has plenty of time to develop as it is. As the Jets try to look to the future, questions around the roster come up. Does Patrick White get resigned and play another year with Domi in the AHL? What happens to Logan Stephenson, who, has proven time and time again, that he is a capable top pairing dman, albeit to the chagrin of the rest of the league. Is Risto doing enough? What will camps look like? What is the 3rd line going to look like? Will the Jets keep rotating promising fringe players on the 3rd line until something clicks? And what is going to happen with the logjam of goaltending of Hovinen, Sorokin, and Theissen. Niitymaki is not doing much, if anything, will he retire? Will he be traded? Lots to think about, but with results coming in, there isint much pressure to pull various triggers. For the first time in a long time. GM Barth can finally be happy with how things have been shaking out. Is this just a factor of the RNG? Or is this the fruits of the long road to building a competitve team, in, arguably, the strogner of two conferences. Time will tell.
