Blues Update as they Approach 30 games

By Jason Besancenez

As the St. Louis Blues approach their 30th game of the season, let’s look at how this rebuild is doing. First on the pro roster, although the Blue are currently at the bottom of the western conference. If they can string together a few wins, there is the opportunity to move up in the standings. There have been several recent changes to the roster that will hopefully result in a few more wins as the season progresses. A few players have come up from the farm, including Trevor Van Riemsdyk on defense, and German Rubstov at Center. Both players had reached a level of development on the farm, it was time to see what they can do on the big club. GM Semyck also traded for Tyson Barrie to help shore up the D, it was clear one of the major issues in the Blue quest to win games, was allowing too many goals. Adding Van Riemsdyk and Barrie to the back end will shore up some of the holes on the back end.

As we take a look at the farm club, the youngsters are still leading the way down there. Veleno and Suzuki are leading the way down there, and there is another group of forwards that are not far behind in scoring. On the back end, Fox, Pokka and Hutton are all playing well, the one surprise on the defense is Quinn Hughes, he started a little slow, could be the pressure of being the number 4 pick in the draft, looking for a strong second half of the season from him. Next update will be at the halfway point in the season.
