Consistently Inconsistent

By Duane Goetz

Well, one was to simply look at the Canes record over their
last 10 game of 7-3, one would normally be happy with that and expect the team
is playing a fairly high level.

First the negative; But, if you look deeper, you will find
that the team has dropped their last 3 games in convincing fashion, to teams
that were beatable.  This was a result of
allowing 12 goals and only scoring 6 over those 3 games.  The team’s league worst PK has been haunting
them all year, a prime example being the 3 goals allowed yesterday on 6
kills.  The offense has been mediocre at
best and even though the play of Rask has improved in the last half of this
early season, it too has been inconsistent.

Now the silver lining;
before this 3 game slide the team had won 7 in a row and had climbed
into a playoff spot.  Switching Stamkos
and Crosby seemed to spark chemistry on both the top two lines.  This, along with secondary scoring from the 3rd
line was proving that a good defense is a good offense, as some of those
minuses turned into pluses.

There was talk of a trade being bounced around for a strong
3rd line center, but whether fact or fiction, it never came to
fruition.
