Oilers Pay Steep Price

for established star and cost certainty.

Just days before the start of the FNHL regular season the Oilers made another big move as they continue the trend of getting younger in today's FNHL.

The Oilers sent off season acquisitions Patrick Sharp and Rasmus Asplund as well as 1st round picks in 2027 and 2028 to Philadelphia in return for Tyler Seguin. While Seguin's talent makes him attractive it was his $5 mil cap hit for the next 3 years that ultimately lead to Edmonton paying Philly's price.

The move allows Edmonton to move Patrick White back to the wing and he is likely to line up beside Seguin on the teams 2nd line. Seguin should also see time on the teams 2nd power play unit.

In a second deal struck by Edmonton the Oilers sent Jaroslav Halak to Arizona where he is expected to serve as the back-up. In return Edmonton received Arizona's 3rd round picks in 2024 and 2025.

The team has seen significant change in its roster this off season.

Out are:

Daniel Sedin - retired
Steve Eminger - retired
Niklaus Kronwall - retired
Erik Ersberg - traded to Toronto
Chris Krieder - traded to Pittsburgh
Jordan Staal - traded to Vancouver
Mike Green - traded to Florida
Drew Schiestal - traded to Florida
Trevor Lewis - traded to Toronto
Beau Bennett - traded to Florida

Coming in are:

Antti Raanta - acquired from Pittsburgh
Lucas Sbisa - acquired from Pittsburgh
Jared Tinordi - acquired from Vancouver
Matt D'Agostini - acquired from Vancouver
Tyler Seguin - acquired from Philadelphia
Michael Scarbossa - acquired from San Jose
Ron Hainsey - acquired from Detriot
Eric Staal - acquired from Toronto
Carl Gunnarson - called up from Minors
Toni Rajala - called up from Minors

In all that is 50% of the teams roster that has turned over.

It would appear that the Oilers are now happy with their roster and excited to see where this group can take the franchise.

Let the games begin!!!
